Receipt for the security deposit payment
Updated on 08/17/2026
Have you paid a security deposit via Roomlala and are looking for proof of payment? A security deposit receipt is generated automatically as soon as your payment has been processed. Here is where to find it, what it contains, and how to download it.
What is the security deposit receipt?
The security deposit receipt is a PDF document that serves as proof that you have paid the security deposit for your rental. It summarizes the amount paid, the rental period, the property concerned, and the current status of your security deposit.
This document is for tenants only: since you are the one paying the security deposit, you are the one who receives the receipt. The host, for their part, can track the status of the security deposit from their inbox.
Good news: the receipt is available as soon as the security deposit has been processed, without having to wait until the end of your stay. It then updates automatically throughout the lifespan of your security deposit.
Where to find your security deposit receipt
Go to your inbox and open the conversation related to your booking. In the payment summary, you will find a "Security deposit" box displaying the status and amount of your security deposit.
Below this box, click on the "Receipt" link. The document will appear directly on your screen.
If the link does not appear, it means the security deposit has not yet been processed. As long as the status is "Pending payment," no receipt can be issued.
What the receipt contains
The receipt is divided into three sections:
- General information: your reference number (in the format CAUTION_R followed by your booking code), your host's name, the rental period, and the property address
- Security deposit details: the security deposit amount, service fees excluding tax, VAT, and the total amount you paid
- Security deposit status: its current status, the amounts returned, withheld, or still held, as well as key dates
A transaction history is also listed at the bottom of the document. You will find each movement dated there: the security deposit payment, and subsequently its release or refund when the time comes.
Understanding the displayed status
The receipt adapts to the current stage of your security deposit. Here are the statuses you may encounter:
- Processed: the security deposit has been charged and is held by Roomlala for the duration of the rental
- Refund in progress: the stay has ended, and the security deposit will be automatically returned to you at the end of the claims period if no damage is reported
- Damage reported: your host has reported damage, and the security deposit is blocked while the case is being processed
- Disputed or In arbitration: you have contested the claim, and Roomlala is reviewing the file
- Returned in full or partially: the security deposit has been sent back to you, in full or after a deduction
- Withheld in full: the security deposit has been paid to the host due to reported damage
- Cancelled: the booking was cancelled, and the security deposit and service fees have been refunded to you
As long as the security deposit is not settled, the receipt also displays upcoming deadlines: the expected refund date and your host's claim deadline.
Download or share the receipt
From the receipt screen, click on the "Download receipt" button at the top right. The PDF will be saved to your device.
From the iOS app, this button becomes "Share document": you can then send the receipt directly via email, message, or save it to your files.
Good to know
- Service fees related to the security deposit are not refunded: they cover the cost of securing the security deposit via Roomlala
- In the event of a booking cancellation, service fees are refunded at the same time as the security deposit
- You can view and download your receipt as many times as you like; it remains accessible from your inbox
- The amount paid to the host for damage appears at the bottom of the receipt for your information
