What happens in the event of an early departure?
Your plans have changed and you need to move out before the original move-out date? Don't panic. On Roomlala, an early departure is entirely possible, and the process is simple. Here is what actually happens and how to handle it.
Who can shorten the duration of the rental
An early departure applies to long-term rentals where rent is paid monthly online via the payment schedule. It is the tenant who can shorten the duration of their rental directly from their personal dashboard.
The host, however, cannot shorten the rental on their end: they can only extend it. If you are a host and your tenant wishes to leave earlier, ask them to make the change from their own account.
How to shorten your rental
If you are a tenant and you wish to move up your departure date, follow these steps:
- Log in to your Roomlala account and open your rental payment schedule.
- Click on the "Shorten duration" button.
- Indicate the new end date for your rental, then click "Modify".
What happens once the duration is shortened
As soon as you confirm the modification:
- Rent already paid remains non-refundable.
- Rent for the months following your new departure date is cancelled: you no longer have any payments to make for that period.
- Your payment schedule is updated automatically with the new end date.
- Your host is informed of the change by email.
If your new departure date falls in the middle of a month, the schedule adjusts so that you only pay for the period you actually occupy.
